Edgy Chic? Not So Much! XOmandysue Box Review #1

Another day, another new subscription box!

Ah, college.. best years of your life, and hair.

EDIT: XOmandysue has stopped offering their subscription service since this blog post was written (at least I can’t find the option on their site anymore if they do). They are a normal online boutique now.

How XOmandysue works:
1) Head on over to xomandysue.com and subscribe to one of three options for their box service (one month, three months, or 12 months). Use code first25 to receive your first outfit for $25 if you sign up for the three month option. There’s no styling fee, just a flat fee for the subscription.
2) Complete a VERY short style profile, and choose what style of clothes you would like to receive from the following options: laid back cool, boho babe, edgy chic, or casual.
3) Receive your box and rock your new outfit! Each box usually includes three pieces: two clothing items and a piece of jewelry.

All of my clothing came wrapped in gold wrapping paper. A really pretty first impression. The stuff that was IN the golden paper? Eh..

I signed up for three months using the code, just to give it a try. I figured if I love it then I can always extend my subscription. I chose the edgy chic option. The pictures that they used as examples were right up my ally. What I received, I’m not sure I would classify as edgy.

Is it supposed to be edgy because it’s black, or..? That aside, it’s very cute. It’s a hi-lo style and buttons up the entire front with small breast pockets and a collar. It’s actually pretty feminine and will be a nice casual dress.

Here’s an up close picture of the details. Don’t mind the bags under my eyes. I’m a night shift nurse and this was the end of a four in a row night run.

Whaaaaat is this monstrosity? I’m sorry if the seems cruel. It was just my first reaction. I’m not feeling this long denim, collared, button up vest.. thing. I thought the purpose was to receive an outfit, but I can’t even imagine wearing these two pieces together. I don’t know. This is what really makes me love the way Stitch Fix works.

Is this piece salvageable with other pieces? I’ve tried it buttoned up with pants (not denim) in this picture. What are your ideas?

The jewelry piece was a set of stretchy metallic bracelets. Nice, just not blown away.

Things that I really disliked about this service:
What you get is what you get. I feel like the style profile is way too short. It basically only asks about sizing. Yes, I love edgy chic, but I really don’t like the things that I’m being sent and I feel like that could be avoided by asking more detailed questions in the style profile.
I e-mailed about my options if I didn’t like my outfit. The website states things like, “free returns” and “free shipping either way.” However, the response that I got was that I could cancel my subscription any time. Well, okay, but I don’t want to do that.. It turns out you can exchange an outfit for an entirely different outfit, but I actually like the dress so I don’t want to do that. I ended up just keeping everything.

We shall see what next month’s box brings!

Until next time!
– Tia 🙂

    Hello! 🙂
I just checked the website and it looks like since this blog post was written they have stopped offering their subscription service. Recently their website ONLY offered the subscription, whereas now it appears to be a boutique online shopping experience.
