When Matt and I were still long-distance we couldn’t spend every holiday together, especially when I was working. He spent the weekend before our first Thanksgiving, and when he went home to celebrate with his family he left me this meal to come home to.
Tasty.
Here’s how ipsy works:
ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription. Each month you recieve a themed makeup bag stuffed with five (mostly sample sized) products. I can’t emphasize enough that they are sample sized, although at least one item will be full sized. It’s a “try before you buy” type of subscription, and a generally fun way to find new things that you love (or hate). Every person’s bag is a different variation based off of the style quiz they complete upon signing up. That means you probably won’t get the same thing as your friends, which is pretty cool!
The cost is $10/month or $110 for a year.

Bag #7 (August 2017)
This month my ipsy bag came in a gold mailer, instead of the usual pink. I would have had no idea that this held any significance whatsoever if my sister hadn’t given me a heads up earlier in the month that they were being sent out. Basically, if you receive the gold mailer it means that you are one of the people that they’ve chosen to enroll in their new service: ipsy Shopper (it’s not really that special. Everyone will get their gold bag, they’re just being rolled out slowly). ipsy Shopper is a new feature where you can earn 10 – 30% cash back by shopping for your beauty products through ipsy, as opposed to the brand’s actual website.
The theme for this bag was “good vibes only”. Very hippie-esque: peace, love, and magic, which is definitely something I can get behind.
I think this month’s bag was my favorite, solely because of all of the built up anticipation about which bag I would get. They were all really pretty, and I’d have been happy with any of them. I really liked the Peace Love Lipstick bag, but I ended up with Wild & Free. I’d have kept it, if someone else hadn’t received two of the Lipstick bags and was looking to trade (lucky me!).
It’s a smaller bag, made to feel like faux leather, with a white font and glitter. The inside of mine is dark red. Each bag comes with an ombre coloring and a gold tassle. Super cute!
AURORA Pro Cover Up Concealer in Pale Ecru
I was excited to receive a concealer in my bag. I’ve never received anything like it before, and I mostly assumed that it was because skin tones can be so hard to match. Although, in my case, it’s probably not so hard. Just send me the lightest color made.
I wasn’t really impressed with this concealer. It was kind of watery, but it dried REALLY fast (so don’t try and take pictures of yourself in between application and blending, basically.) I needed two coats to get the same effect that I do with other concealers I’d tried before, so I wasn’t terribly happy about that.
I think I’ll stick to my Shape Tape. I’ll still use this as a base for my eyeshadow though. I’m not big on wasting products.
First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay
I love, love, love receiving skin care products in my ipsy bags. This cleanser has a different kind of smell to it, but not one that I was adverse to. The closest thing I can compare it to is a cross between cough syrup and Vics VapoRub (haha). It lathers up into a red foam, which is kind of neat, and did a great job removing my waterproof makeup.
Pacifica Coconut Blush Duo
Blush is life. Blush is everything. And I really like this blush. This was my full sized item this month. I’d read other reviews where people said that his blush wasn’t very pigmented, but I have to disagree. I think this blush is VERY pigmented. I barely needed any on my brush to achieve the desired effect (maybe because I’m so pale?). It comes with two colors: Beaming and Tenderheart. The powder is silky-smooth (swatched below), and it really delivered on a natural looking color. There’s even a mirror on the back. What more could you ask for?
I’m wearing the shade Beaming in this picture.
theBalm Cosmetics Voyage Vol. 2 Eyeshadow in Kuwakaribisha
I was really hoping for the darker shadow, because on my skin tone this color doesn’t really pop (or even show up all that well). I did use it for the inside corner of my eyes and I thought that was alright. It might also be good as a base, but I doubt I’ll get too much use out of it.
sundays Nail Polish in No. 7
And last, but not least, the nail polish. This one makes me sad, because I’d have really preferred the beautiful, light pink color that they were sending out. This is a more purplish, grey kind of tone. It’s a little annoying, because the last polish they sent me was grey too. A girl only needs so many of the same color of nail polish. Anyway, it dried down matte after two coats and had good coverage. I can’t testify to how long it lasted, because I’m a nail biter and I’m prone to stripping my nails in 48 hours. I’m a gel girl for sure.
And, that’s it! Here is the final look using all of this month’s ipsy products:
Other products used include:
Too Faced Hangover Primer
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation
PUR Cosmetics My Little Pony Eyeshadow Palette
Starlooks Luxe Longwear Liner Pen
Eyeko Lash Alert Mascara
PUR Cosmetics My Little Pony Glow Stick Kit
In the end, I gave this bag three out of five stars. It’s not my favorite, but I love the blush and cleanser and I’ll continue to use the shadow and concealer.
Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you next time! 🙂
