We All Scream For Ice-cream! ipsy Bags Review #3 and #4

The first Halloween that Matt and I spent together we were determined to find the perfect couple’s costume. I wanted to be Bambi and Thumper, but he had a better idea.

Here’s how ipsy works:
ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription. Each month you recieve a themed makeup bag stuffed with five (mostly sample sized) products. I can’t emphasize enough that they are sample sized, although at least one item will be full sized. It’s a “try before you buy” type of subscription, and a generally fun way to find new things that you love (or hate). Every person’s bag is a different variation based off of the style quiz they complete upon signing up. That means you probably won’t get the same thing as your friends, which is pretty cool!
The cost is $10/month or $110 for a year.

 Bag #3 (April 2017)

I think the idea behind this bag is really cute. I’m not sure it’s the type of makeup bag that I’ll be keeping in my purse, but I can appreciate it for the theme. It comes in a really hot red/orange color and is modeled after a classic carnival ticket. The inside is the same color and it comes with a folded pull tab for the zipper.

OFRA Cosmetics Rendezvous Blush

Based on how much I loved this blush, I think I’m really going to like the brand OFRA. ipsy describes Rendezvous as a “classic, cool-toned, soft rose” and I agree. It was not only super pigmented (like, one swipe of the brush is all you need), but it was also long wearing and very natural looking.

This was one of those rare instances where the product was actually harder to swatch than it was to apply.

Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Glow Shimmer Shadow & Highlighter

I definitely lost this product the moment I got it, so unfortunately I can’t swatch it for you (I ripped apart my entire bathroom looking for it). I can only describe how I felt about the product based off of my memory. This shadow is perfect for the inside corner of your eyes for a little pop to make you look more awake. It’s also great as a highlighter and very buildable. So you can go from natural glow to beaming in no time flat.

defy & Inspire Wear Resistant Nail Lacquer in Paradise Island

I’m not a nail polish girl, so the wonder of this polish probably escapes me. But I like the color. It’s like a baby blue, or maybe mint? Anyway, I like that it’s not neutral. And I like that it’s not gray like every other color they’ve sent me. It went on well in two coats, but my god did it take forever to dry. Am I the only person who doesn’t have 20 minutes to sit around, literally watching paint dry? It’s maddening! And I STILL messed up one of my nails! I liked the shiny finish, but not enough to use it on a regular basis.

THEORIE Marula Oil Transforming Hair Serum

I was a little nervous to try out this product, because my hair gets really oily after one day of not washing it. Adding more oil into the mixture doesn’t really sound that appealing to me. I’m more in the market for a dry shampoo, but what the heck. This is what I’ve got. My top comment is that it smells absolutely amazing. My second comment is that it was kind of what I expected. I applied it on a day when I didn’t plan on washing my hair. It didn’t make my hair feel heavy with oil, but I could tell it was there and that made me feel self-conscious and uncomfortable.

ColourPop Cosmetics Crème Gel Pencil in DTLA

I love ColourPop, so it was really cool to receive a full size of one of their products in my glam bag. Even better, this liner came in four different shades. I was just happy to have received something other than black. It went on smooth and to say it was waterproof would be an understatement. The below swatch is pictured after I showered and washed the dishes. I’m actually really impressed. And it was still easy to smudge around my eyes if I needed to.

My rating: 3/5 stars. I’m loving receiving blush and highlighter, and the ColourPop liner was a bonus item. I’m really not feeling the hair serum, and I’m just not a nail polish girl. I’m thinking of unmarking it on my beauty profile.

#4

I mean, who doesn’t love ice cream? This bag is so cute, and actually a decent size. It’s a see through, water resistant bag that features cute cartoon pictures of ice cream. The zipper pull is a black round with the ipsy logo on it.

Urban Decay Afterglow in Sin

This is a champagne-hued highlighter that makes me feel like I’m glowing from within. It’s lightweight and super long lasting.

Beauty & Pin-Ups Fearless Hair Rescue Masque

In the spirit of being honest, I disliked this product. It smelled amazing, but who has 15 minutes to just sit around and deep condition their hair in their own home? I’m sure some people do, but not this girl. I tried it out a few times, but didn’t experience a notable outcome. Certainly not enough to make me want to continue.

Starlooks Artist Edition – Luxe Longwear Star Stamp and Liner Pen

Confession: ever since I received this liner in my bag I haven’t used another. I am in love. It goes on silky smooth and is easy to remove if you mess up (which I always do). It’s dark black, and the description says it’s waterproof, but I have some serious doubts about that claim. I have never used the star end. It seems a little juvenile to me for every day use.

Luxie Beauty Dreamcatcher Precision Foundation Brush 660

I prefer to use a beauty blender to apply my foundation, so I’m not entirely sure how much use I’ll get out of this brush, but it’s amazingly soft and I love Luxie brushes. I also really like the color of the handle, which is a soft purple (periwinkle?).

Caked Makeup Lip Fondant in Low Key

I am mad about liquid lipsticks, but I was so certain that I wasn’t going to like this one because of how dark the color was. Boy, was I wrong. It’s like a deep red, berry color. It does smell very sweet, but it also gives me serious Taylor Swift vibes. I think it might be a new favorite!

My rating: 4/5. I think this might have been my best ipsy bag yet! The highlighter, liner, and lipstick were enough to make me swoon, but the brush put it over the top. Really, the only product that I didn’t enjoy was the hair masque. Win for me!

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed! 🙂
