Spellbound. ipsy Bag #9

Christmas is MADNESS!

Here’s how ipsy works:
ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription. Each month you recieve a themed makeup bag stuffed with five (mostly sample sized) products. I can’t emphasize enough that they are sample sized, although at least one item will be full sized. It’s a “try before you buy” type of subscription, and a generally fun way to find new things that you love (or hate). Every person’s bag is a different variation based off of the style quiz they complete upon signing up. That means you probably won’t get the same thing as your friends, which is pretty cool!
The cost is $10/month or $110 for a year.

Bag #9 (October 2017)

This month’s theme is true to October: spellbound. For all my fellow witches, this bag is for us.

Unpopular opinion: this bag would be so cute without the bat zipper tab. It sort of takes it from October classy to Halloween gimmicky, but I’m sure that’s what they were going for. The bag is a light crimson color with a lace print and a black inner lining. From the preview I thought that the bag was going to be covered in actual lace, which would have been really cool. I still like this bag more than a few of the others that I’ve received.

DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS COSMETICS Eyeshadow in Bronzed

This eyeshadow is gorgeous. It’s a shimmery bronze color that is super buildable and I’m absolutely in love with it. It’s also vegan and cruelty free!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion

I will never complain about receiving eyeliner in my bags. It’s probably the only thing that I wear on a daily basis. I’ve heard people raving about this eyeliner, so I was really excited to see that I was getting it in my bag. I just wish that with 41 color choices they could have sent something other than black. But hey, it’s a staple. The eyeliner itself really glides on smoothly and I found it easily blendable and long lasting.

MDMflow Liquid Matte Lipstick in Retro

This lipstick was my full sized item this month and I was really excited about that, because it normally costs $23. I loved the look of this on the lips. It’s the perfect shade of pink for me! Unfortunately, I HATE the formula. It remained sticky even after hours of wear which was totally obnoxious. It also did not have the stay power that was advertised. It came off all over my coffee cup while I was drinking and I even found it on my sandwich after taking a few bites. I had to reapply half-way through the day. It’s so unfortunate, because I really do think the color suits me.

MARC ANTHONY Hydrating Coconut Oil & Shea Butter Oil Treatment

Another hair oil.. coooool. In ipsy’s defense, I hadn’t taken it off of my profile yet. So, even though I’ve been rating them terribly I guess they could argue that they didn’t realize I didn’t want to receive them. I won’t spend too much time on this. Hair oils just don’t work for my naturally oily hair. I’d love if I got all of the fantastic effects of this serum, like no more split ends or shinier hair, but it just makes me feel like a grease ball. It does smell AMAZING though. So if you’re in the market for a hair serum, maybe give this one a try?

IT COSMETICS Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder

This was the item that I requested for my bag this month, and I’m so glad that I did! I’ve never tried a finishing powder before, so I was really excited to get a chance to try this one. I was not disappointed! The powder worked really well with my skin tone and gave me a soft air-brushed look when I used it with a brush. I’m actually obsessed. I’m going to recommend this powder to everyone I know.

I’m giving this bag a three out of five star rating. The items that I absolutely loved are the eyeliner, eyeshadow, and finishing powder. I’m really sad that the lipstick didn’t work out, because I think the color is bomb. And, of course, I just can’t do hair oils. All in all, such a fun bag!

Here’s the look I made with all of the items in my bag this month:

I wore it out apple picking, because I’m actually that extra.

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you next time! 🙂
