Create. ipsy #14

We look like babies, haha.

Here’s how ipsy works:
ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription. Each month you recieve a themed makeup bag stuffed with five (mostly sample sized) products. I can’t emphasize enough that they are sample sized, although at least one item will be full sized. It’s a “try before you buy” type of subscription, and a generally fun way to find new things that you love (or hate). Every person’s bag is a different variation based off of the style quiz they complete upon signing up. That means you probably won’t get the same thing as your friends, which is pretty cool!
The cost is $10/month or $110 for a year.

This month’s theme is “Create”! This bag is ipsy’s first DIY type bag, which is such a neat idea. Each bag comes with two markers of varying colors. I got pink and green.

Bag #14 (March 2018)

This month’s bag featured a black and white pattern, perfect for coloring on, as well as a pink satin-like ribbon for a zipper tab and a black lining inside.

Glossier Balm Dotcom in Coconut – full size $12

I actually already owned a full size of this product in the Original flavor (I received it for free with a recent Glossier order), so I already knew I was going to love it. Fortunately it came in four different flavors, so I just had to cross my fingers and hope for anything but Original. Rose sounded intriguing, but I ended up with Coconut and I like it a lot. I feel like I don’t need to use a lot at all, and it keeps my lips feeling moisturized for longer periods of time than chapstick. I’m always a fan of lip balms, but this one is at the top of the list. It’s especially cool, because it can be used as a skin salve or cuticle cream as well.

Skin&Co Roma Truffle Therapy Cleansing Cream – full size $35

When I saw that I was getting this cleanser I couldn’t help but think, ugh.. great. ANOTHER cleanser. But I feel completely the opposite after having tried it. This cream is silky smooth and gentle on my sensitive skin. I use it at the end of the day when I’m washing up and it actually feels like the makeup is melting off of my face. I liked it so much that I got a pair of scissors to cut it open so that I could use every last bit.

Tarte Cosmetics Sex Kitten Eyeliner – full size $20

I love Tarte, and I love eyeliner (especially in mechanical form), but I HATE this product. I didn’t feel that it went on smoothly whatsoever. I experienced a lot of tugging on my lids, and it was even difficult to get on my waterline. It’s okay though Tarte, you’re still my #1.

Aurora Ultimate Shine Lip Gloss in Fairy – full size $8

Coming from someone who is not an avid lip gloss wearer, this product isn’t that bad. My least favorite thing about glosses is how sticky they can be. Thankfully, that isn’t really a problem with this one. It was very comfortable to wear. Not long lasting, although most glosses aren’t. The color is a little too bright for every day use, but it’s very pretty.

SLMISSGLAM SL41 Blusher Brush (full size item) – not for individual sale per website

I’m usually over the moon when I see that I’m receiving a brush, but not so much this time. You might recall that I got a SLMISSGLAM highlight brush in a previous bag and I was not at all impressed by it. This one was a little bit better at picking up product at least, but the actual brush part is so small. I like to stipple on my blush and this isn’t really appropriate for that.

The verdict:
I would rate this bag 2/5 stars. The real MVP’s are the cleanser and the lip balm. I use them both every day and am considering buying a full size of a cleanser because I like it so much (but $35? Ugh!). I’m not loving the lip gloss or the blush brush, and even though I’ll use the eyeliner, I’m not wild about it.

Thanks for taking the time to read my little blog! 🙂
