Social Butterfly. ipsy #15

Inside joke: Matt and I are five years apart, so when we started dating his best friend used to joke about how young I was by saying things like “oh no! I forgot to buy your girlfriend apple juice for the party this weekend!”

This picture was for him, haha

How does ipsy work?

Type of subscription: beauty
Frequency: monthly
Product size: sample, although most people will receive at least one full sized item
Amount of products received: 5, always
Cost: $10/month or $110/year

Each month you recieve a themed makeup bag stuffed with products. It’s a “try before you buy” type of subscription, and a generally fun way to find new things that you love (or hate). Every person’s bag is a different variation based off of the style quiz they complete upon signing up. That means you probably won’t get the same thing as your friends, which is pretty cool!

This month’s theme is “Social Butterfly.” It’s a gentle reminder to step out of your comfort zone, because life is too short to skip all of the fun stuff happening right now!

Bag #15 (April 2018)

I have to say, I think this bag is super cute! I’m a fan of pastel colors so the purple back and inside of the bag are right up my ally. Rose gold is my absolute favorite, so I’m loving the accents like the corners of the bag and the zipper tab. This butterfly pattern has got me feeling like Spring WILL eventually come!

H2O+ Beauty Oasis Hydrating Treatment – full size $38

This moisturizer comes in a gel formula that absorbs super fast, and is satisfyingly blue in color. It’s made with water-based ingredients which helps your skin retain moisture and promises to condition and soften. It delivers on its promises and fast tracked itself to the top of the list of my favorite moisturizers. The one thing I’m not a fan of is that it has a very strong chemical smell to it, like a cleaning solution.

Trifle Cosmetics Sugar Bunny Lip Scrub – full size $17.95

I don’t frequently use lip scrubs (they never seem to do anything for my lips), but I love this product. It smells and tastes amazing, like watermelon. It promised to soften my lips without drying them out, but my lips are naturally VERY dry. It’ll take a special product to make that change.

The Vintage Cosmetics Company Slanted Tweezers in Rose Gold (full size) – £8.00

Are these not the cutest tweezers you’ve ever seen? I absolutely love them. I didn’t have high hopes when I saw that I was receiving them, because I’ve had bad luck with buying cheap tweezers recently. But now that I’ve received them, I’m a believer. The tips are slanted, which makes them great for grabbing even the tiniest of hairs. It’s probably my favorite item from this month’s bag!

Paula Dorf Cosmetics Bronzer in Bora Bora – full size $32 (this shade not for sale on their website)

This bronzer is silky soft to the touch and the perfect color for someone who is as fair skinned as I am. It’s lightweight on my face, but builds easily. Bronzer is probably one of my favorite makeup items (now that I know how to use it) and I can’t imagine not using it.

NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm (full size) – $6.50

Stockholm is described as a mid-tone beige pink, but it looks very brown in the container. I’m actually grateful that it doesn’t look at all like the ipsy supplied swatch picture, because I would have really disliked that. The formula of the lip color itself is actually very smooth and creamy, which isn’t something that I usually expect from a matte. It doesn’t feel heavy on my lips, even after building up the color, and it proved to be long lasting and comfortable.

Verdict:
I would rate this bag 5 out of 5 stars. The tweezers are my favorite item, and I love receiving lipstick. The moisturizer and lip scrub are really nice additions to my skin routine, and I’m super happy to have a new bronzer to play around with. This might be my best ipsy bag to date!
