Box #1
I’ve been hearing a lot about this subscription in some of the makeup oriented Facebook groups I belong to, and I’ve been meaning to subscribe for the longest time, but unfortunately for me there was a waiting list in place for a few months. When they lifted it for May’s box I jumped on board immediately. I guess I wasn’t the only one, because May would prove to be a very trying month for this company. First, they announced a price hike from $11 to $14, but then they failed to send out everyone’s boxes on time which made people wonder if they were really ready to open up the waitlist when they did. We know now that it’s because they were waiting on a shipment from Bioderma. My box, fortunately, wasn’t late (or rather it was because I changed my address, but that’s not the company’s fault). Despite all of their issues, the company seemed genuinely apologetic and tried to make the situation right for its customers.
This month’s theme was “Clean and Gleam,” and came with a pamphlet that describes all of your items for you. Unfortunately it doesn’t have any pricing information, but that’s what you have me for!
Bioderma Sensibio H2O – $6.90
I’ve really been wanting to try micellar water, so it was kind of exciting to receive this item. Is that weird? I’ve had a hard time finding a makeup remover recently that removes waterproof makeup easily, but this stuff works like a charm! It’s made for sensitive skin, so I didn’t experience any irritation after using it. I can’t use this product anymore because they it has oil in it, which breaks down eyelash extensions, but that’s okay. I mainly used it for mascara removal.
Laundress Wash and Stain Bar – $6
This isn’t an item that I expected to find in my box, but it really makes sense when you think about it. I can’t be the only person who hates the awkward dance that has to take place when pulling on or taking off a nice shirt over a full face of makeup. Or, that has dropped makeup on one of their outfits while they’re in a rush to get out the door. Some people are complaining about having received this in place of something else makeup related, but I think it will come in handy for me. Not to mention, it smells really nice. The company did send out an email cautioning against using it as a brush cleaner as it contains borax which can irritate eyes.
Pure Paw Paw Multi-Use Ointment in Strawberry – $4.95
How cute is the packaging of this ointment? This product came in several variations of flavors. I’m happy to have received the strawberry, and just grateful to have not gotten the grape (yuck!). This ointment has multiple uses for dry and cracked skin, but I love a good lip balm so that’s what I’ll be using mine for.
J. Cat Liquid Highlighter in Moon Light – $8.99
I’ve never used a liquid highlighter before, so I was excited to try this out. Moon Light is a beautiful rose gold color, but it’s SUPER pigmented which makes it a little too dark for my pale complexion. A little bit goes a long way, and it’s very buildable. I’m going to try mixing it with my moisturizer or primer and see if I can use it that way, because it is really pretty even if I can’t use it as a highlighter.
BH Cosmetics Sculpt and Blend Mini Brush Set – unable to find retail value online
Who doesn’t love receiving brushes in their subscription boxes? Especially eye brushes. I can never have enough! Some people were upset when they received these brushes, because I guess they’ve seen them given out for free other places, but considering the value of the box already exceeds its cost I’m okay with it! These brushes are perfect for buffing out creases or packing on shadows, and they’re a great size to just throw in your day bag.
