How does ipsy work?
Type of subscription: beauty
Frequency: monthly
Product size: sample, although most people will receive at least one full sized item
Amount of products received: 5, always
Cost: $10/month or $110/year
Each month you recieve a themed makeup bag stuffed with products. It’s a “try before you buy” type of subscription, and a generally fun way to find new things that you love (or hate). Every person’s bag is a different variation based off of the style quiz they complete upon signing up. That means you probably won’t get the same thing as your friends, which is pretty cool!
I pay for this subscription.

The theme for the month of July is summer! The insert provides details and products that are available via ipsy shopper to protect your skin and scalp from the sun.
Bag #18
The bag this month is a beautiful teal color that has this holographic sort of look to it. When I first saw it I was immediately reminded of mermaid scales. The inside of the bag is a similar, solid color. And the zipper tab is a small white circle with the ipsy logo on it in blue. It’s not very big, but not too small either. I think this is a great bag!

Z Skin Acne Spot Treatment – retail $17

This spot treatment is a creamy consistency and works to get rid of acne as well as balance your complexion. I’ve actually tried this product before and I absolutely loved it. I felt like it worked amazingly for me, and fast. I’m really happy to have received this in my ipsy bag this month, especially since I’m having problems with breaking out as of recently.
Wander Beauty Glowtion – retail $34

I couldn’t find this exact product on the Wander website to link for you guys, so I chose one that is very similar. This lotion has a champagne finish to it and is widely multi-purpose. You can mix it with your foundation, wear it over your makeup as a highlight, or wear it alone. I personally like mixing it with my moisturizer to give my face a subtle, but healthy looking glow. At first I was a little nervous that this product would be too dark for my pale complexion, but it’s actually perfect!
Sugar Cosmetics Stroke of Genius Heavy-Duty Kohl Eyeliner in Green Light (full size!) – retail $13.99

Unfortunately, the Sugar Cosmetics website is only selling this liner in black and it seems to be sold out at this moment. I’ve linked it for you anyway, just in case they restock soon. If you order directly from their site they’ll send you a complimentary sharpener as well. I’m not usually a fan of liners you have to sharpen, but this one is smooth as butter and a gorgeous emerald green color. It’s so nice to receive something that isn’t ipsy’s usual black or nude color. It’s smudge-proof and water resistant, keeping in consistency with ipsy’s poolside theme this month.

Ofra Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Exquisite (full size!) – retail $12

Now this is different. I’ve never received a black eyeshadow from ipsy. There’s a silver sparkle to it that makes it less flat. Not that there’s anything wrong with a matte shade every now and then. This shadow didn’t swatch well for me, leaving me with the impression that it wasn’t very pigmented, but when I actually applied it to my eyes it had an amazing smokey effect. It blended easily and was relatively long lasting. I didn’t experience issues with fallout, but the glitter is very subtle anyway.

Mellow Cosmetics Creamy Matte Lipstick in Candy Floss (full size!) – retail $15

I said it earlier, and I’ll say it again: be careful what you ask for! I’m constantly complaining about being sent the same nude lipsticks time and time again. Well, friends, ipsy listened this time! This lipstick is a matte, vibrant fuchsia color. It’s packed with pigment, and comfortable to wear (even for a matte). There is some transfer, I noticed, but overall it stayed in place all day. The only thing I really didn’t like about it is that it is so pigmented that it actually stains your skin!

The verdict: 5/5!
I liked every product from my bag this month! It was a nice, colorful surprise. Here’s the entire look that I pulled together from my items:
