How does the FabFitFun Style Box work?

Type of subscription: clothing
Frequency: you schedule your next box after every return
Amount of products received: at least 5
Cost: $20 per box (which is credited towards any items you buy) and free shipping + the cost of whatever items you decide to keep

In March I received an email from the FabFitFun style team offering me the chance to try their style box. They claim that it’s an “exclusive” offer, but I kind of have the feeling that anyone could enroll if they wanted to. FabFitFun has no idea that I am a blogger, and I do not believe that their decision to ask me to participate in this beta program was influenced by it.

If you’ve ever heard of Stitch Fix or Trunk Club, this service is very similar. Upon signing up you’ll fill out a personal style profile. You’ll then receive a follow up email, asking if you want to show them a few of your favorite outfits or a Pinterest clothing board if you have one. You’ll receive five items in the mail to try on in the comfort of your own home. Keep what you like, and return what you don’t. They provide you with a pre-paid return envelope. You have three days to decide. You’ll receive an email with your checkout link. Submit your purchase, and drop your returns off at FedEx. If you keep all of the items you’ll receive 25% off of your entire purchase!

It’s that easy!

I pay for this subscription.

Box #4

For this box I asked my stylist Marissa to send me some pieces that were fun for Autumn so that I could start preparing for the changing of the seasons.

I love that Marissa referenced the romper that I kept, and my love for Taylor Swift. Small details like that let me know that she is actually paying attention to the things that I say. I like that she tried to pick items for me that were multi-use and could be dressed up or down.

Side Twisted Knitted Dress – $44

I was hoping that I would actually really like this dress. I thought that it might be more fitted because of the side knot detail, but it wasn’t fitted at all. It went straight down my body, which gave me an unflattering silhouette.
RETURNED.

Contrast Striped Knitted Top – $38

Well, this top doesn’t fit quite right either now does it? This shirt also has a knot detail at the bottom of the front, which I don’t mind. It’s also a hi-lo style, which I usually like, but I can’t get past the pattern mixing. The strips on the front are wide and horizontal and the stripes on the back are very narrow and vertical. It’s not my cup of tea.
RETURNED.

Floral Wrap Front Top – $48

I’m starting to see a trend in this box.. This top has a lot going on. Besides being yet another top with a knot in it, it also has ruffle sleeves and a very low cut neckline. Annnnnd, the waist is elastic. I like the colors and pattern, but it fit a little on the large size and came off as a little too “blousey” for my taste.
RETURNED.

Button Up Stripe Skirt – $42

You guessed it, more stripes! This skirt is actually pretty well fitting and cute. I had a terrible time finding anything in my closet to wear with it, because of its red, white and blue pattern. The front features buttons in a straight line from top to bottom. If I wore skirts more often I might consider keeping this, but for $42 it’s hard to justify buying an item that I don’t have anything else to match in my closet.
RETURNED.

Felix Handbag – $36

And finally, the hero of this box. This is a small bag with two pockets, one on either side. They’re identical. The bag itself has a metallic shimmer to it and a golden circlet handle. While it isn’t ideal for traveling, it’s great for casual outings when you know you won’t be carrying a lot of items. I really like this bag, and since it’s the only thing that I’m buying my styling fee will apply to it making it a $16 purchase. Score!
KEPT.

The verdict: 1/5
It’s really unfortunate to see my box regress after having been filled with hope from last month’s. I kept one item this time, which means that in the last 4 boxes I’ve only kept 5 items. I generally only give a box three chances, but I’m holding out for one more box. I’m genuinely hoping that they find a way to impress me next month!

Thanks for reading!
