How does ipsy work?
Type of subscription: beauty
Frequency: monthly
Product size: sample, although most people will receive at least one full sized item
Amount of products received: 5, always
Cost: $10/month or $110/year
Each month you recieve a themed makeup bag stuffed with products. It’s a “try before you buy” type of subscription, and a generally fun way to find new things that you love (or hate). Every person’s bag is a different variation based off of the style quiz they complete upon signing up. That means you probably won’t get the same thing as your friends, which is pretty cool!

I pay for this subscription.
The theme for the month of August is apparently rebellion! The insert provides details and products that are available via ipsy shopper to help you stand out from the crowd.
The bag this month is probably my favorite bag in a little while. No joke. This bag combines my love for metallics and eyelashes. It is a black bag with a champagne trim and zipper, and features a pair of eyelashes on the front. The inside liner is bright pink.
tréStiQue Mini Lip Glaze in “Mumbai Magenta” – full size retail $25
How absolutely adorable is the packaging for this product? It’s a little pencil! I mean, COME ON! This lip product came in two different colors: magenta and rose. Rose is more of a Tia shade, but I would have been happy with either. The color is buildable, with a stain like/balmy appearance. I didn’t find it to be very long lasting, but it was comfortable to wear. Because of the size of this sample I did find it a little bit difficult to apply.
Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later Face Primer – full size retail $30
This primer is amazing. It has a silky feel to it, reminiscent of a Smashbox primer, and feels lightweight on my face. It’s waterproof and gives your makeup a matter finish, so you don’t have to worry about looking shiny. It kept my makeup in place all day. I have no complaints! Not only that, but Elizabeth Mott is a cruelty free brand so it’s an item that you can feel good about using.
Doucce Freematic Bronzer in “Sunbeam” – full sizes retail $38
This is a matte bronzer that I found to be super blendable and easy to build. I love bronzers year round, but especially during Winter because I’m so pale that I practically disappear when I snows. This Doucce bronzer is nice, because it’s really subtle and perfect for an every day look. I like it!
Luxie Beauty Wonder Woman Detail Tapered Blender 140 (full size!) – retail $20
Just when I thought that I didn’t need any more makeup brushes.. Luxie comes out with this beauty. I love Wonder Woman and everything that she stands for, so I was PSYCHED to receive this item in my Glam Bag. This brush is soft, but firm if that makes sense. It’s comfortable to use, but stable enough for application of concealer. It can also be used for blending out eyeshadow, but I prefer it for concealer application. Luxie is another cruelty free brand.
Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bod Buff – full size retail $25
I would have shown you a swatch of this product, but at the time I took these pictures I.. used it all. It’s just so good! I couldn’t help myself! Everyone always has amazing things to say about Sol De Janeiro, and this is the first product I’d ever received from them so I was super excited. The product itself is thick, bright yellow, and contains small bright blue crystal exfoliants. It smells absolutely heavenly (like pistachio and salted caramel) and made my skin feel super soft without stripping it or leaving behind any greasy feeling like some soaps do. Basically, if you have to chance to pick this product up and try it DO IT. Warning: this WILL stain your sink/tub if not washed off immediately after use.
The verdict: I really liked all of the items in this bag! My favorite items were the body scrub and the blending brush, but I also really liked the bronzer and the primer. The lip glaze wasn’t my favorite, but the packing was super cute and it’s nice for a more natural look.
Thanks for reading!
