How does the Glam Bag Plus work?
Type of subscription: beauty
Frequency: monthly
Product size: full!
Amount of products received: 5, always
Cost: $25/month
If you’re familiar with how ipsy works, then you’ll catch on pretty quick to the Glam Bag Plus. Each month you will receive a box of 5 full sized items. Every three months you will receive a makeup bag in your box as well. This is different from a regular ipsy subscription where the items are sample sizes and you receive a themed makeup bag every single month. Because all of the products in the Glam Bag Plus are full sized there are fewer variations than there are with it’s counterpart. That being said, they still try to take your beauty profile into consideration. It’s entirely possible though, that you could receive the same variation as one of your friends.
At the time of writing this blog post the Glam Bag Plus subscription is invite only. If after reading you decide that you would like the subscription then I would advise you to email ipsy customer service and ask to be placed on the waitlist. The only requirement for receiving the Glam Bag Plus is an already active ipsy subscription. You can create one here: ipsy.
I pay for this subscription.
Instead of just having a card with the product information on it the Glam Bag Plus comes with a fold out brochure. This brochure shows you all of the items that you received and how you can use them all.
The first bag that everyone received is the same bag that the Influencers got back in September. I’m so happy that we got this bag, because when I originally saw it I thought that it was super pretty! It’s made of a faux suede and is blush in color with brown accents. The inner lining is also brown, and there is a small pocket on the outside of the bag. This bag is large enough to hold all of the items that I received this month inside of it.
Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in “Carbon Black” – retail $22
Whoever made up that whole diamond schtick is a liar, because it’s really eyeliner that is a girl’s best friend. I love that this eyeliner is a TRUE black and glides on smoothly without smudging or feathering. Liquid eyeliner is a staple item for me, and I’ve received this eyeliner once before in sample size from another subscription so I know that I love it.
Smashbox Cover Shot Eye Palette in “Bold Glitter” – retail $29
There is just something so EXCITING about receiving a palette in your subscription box. And this palette is totally eye-catching. It’s full of bright colors and glitter. I found that most of these shades swatched smoothly, while some were a little bit more finicky. This palette is great for accenting eye looks, but be wary when using it because there is a LOT of glitter fall out.
Morphe High Impact Highlighter in “Extra” – retail $14
This Morphe highlighter is a golden peachy shade that is just beautiful. It applies very subtly, but with a heavy hand you can create a glow that can be seen from space. This highlighter gives a light hint of sparkle to my pale skin, making it ideal for an every day look.
LXMI Pure Nilotica Melt Nourishing Balm-to-Oil – retail $28
This product is unique, because it is only made out of a single ingredient: nilotica reserves. If you’ve never heard of nilotica before, it’s kind of like shea butter’s cousin. I had to look it up myself because I had no idea what it is. Basically, it’s 100% organic and is made to deeply nourish dry skin. It starts out as a thick balm (it takes a bit of pressure to actually get it out of the tube) before melting while you rub it into your skin. A little goes a long way. This will be perfect for work, because as the seasons change frequent hand washing really takes a toll on my hands.
Tarte Maneater Voluptuous Mascara – retail $23
I love Tarte products, but it’s a little bit of a bummer that I can’t use the one they’ve sent. I hear great things about this mascara, but because I have eyelash extensions there is a 0% chance that I will use it. I was a little bummed to have received this, because earlier in the year I emailed ipsy about not receiving mascara anymore in my subscription and they opted me out of it. Thankfully, ipsy customer survive is amazing. So when I emailed them and asked them about this mix up they offered to send me a gift in my next box. Score! As someone who can’t try the item, I can’t effectively review it, however I can tell you that this item is advertised as being able to give you falsie length lashes. It is formulated to strengthen and protect your lashes while wearing it.
Ciaté London Dewy Spritz Makeup Prime and Setting Spray – retail $25
As a surprise for the very first box sent to subscribers ipsy gave everyone a sixth item! Mine was this makeup prime and setting spray. I am mesmerized by this beautiful spray. It has a pearlescent look to it that is just gorgeous. It gives you a glowy finish when used as a setting spray. It’s formulated to hydrate and illuminate and a single spray leaves you feeling fresh faced and ready for the day.
The verdict: the first box was a little bit iffy for me. My favorite products were definitely the eyeliner, setting spray, and the actual makeup bag. I really like the palette, but I’m just not sure how much use I’m going to get out of it considering I don’t do such a dramatic eye look very often. The highlight is very pretty, but doesn’t compare to the one I already use, and obviously I can’t use the mascara. Receiving the sixth item was definitely a nice surprise and makes up for receiving an item I can’t even use. I’m excited to see what next month brings!
