How does Ricky’s Cult Crushes work?
Type of subscription: beauty
Frequency: monthly
Product size: a mixture of sample and full size
Amount of products received: varies by month
Cost: $15/month + free shipping
Each month you recieve a themed box of products that are beauty related. Some boxes will include variations for products or shades. As a subscriber, you also get 25% off all online purchases and free shipping on purchases of $50 or more at the Cult Crushes shop.
At the time of this post Ricky’s Cult Crushes monthly subscription box is on hiatus indefinitely. This is their final box.
I paid for this subscription.
This month’s box was curated by YouTuber Alexandria Ryan. I had never heard of her previously, but receiving this box was a fun way to be introduced to her content. Unfortunately, this is the last box that Ricky’s Cult Crushes is sending out. I have a feeling they couldn’t keep up with demand, based solely on the fact that I wasn’t charged for this box until the middle of the month and I didn’t even receive it until the beginning of October.
She’s Lab Kiss My Lips Patch – unable to find retail online
I couldn’t find this item anywhere online to link it, so I’m sorry about that! This lip mask comes in the most adorable packaging. It contains ingredients like collagen, hyaluronic acid, and green tea and is formulated to hydrate and nourish your lips and the skin around them. I don’t mind a good lip mask now and then, but I do find them difficult to wear. This one stays on for 10 – 15 mins, which doesn’t seem like long until you have to sit in place and hold in on the entire time. Otherwise, I like it!
Grande Stay Put Invisible Lip Liner – retail $15
This lip liner is really cool and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. It comes in a mechanical packaging so you can roll it up and down without having to worry about sharpening your product. I love that! This liner is unique, because it’s literally invisible. It keeps your lipsticks from feathering and bleeding, but you don’t have to worry about coordinating it with your actual lip color. I’ve never used a lip liner before, so this is kind of a neat way to start and practice. The first time I used this liner I was really frustrated, because I didn’t think it worked at all. My lipstick looked so sloppy! But the second time I used it things turned out much better. I think I just needed practice applying the actual liner. This product is great!
NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in “Ruffle Trim” – retail $7 (on sale for $5.25 right now!)
Ruffle Trim is described as a cinnamon pink shade, which is a super pretty neutral color. This liquid lipstick is a matte. It dries down pretty fast, but has a sticky finish that I’m not really a fan of. It can be a little drying if you don’t use a primer first, so just keep that in mind. It doesn’t come off easily which is nice.
LA Splash Lumos Highlighting Palette – retail $36
The last item in this month’s box is a highlighting palette from LA Splash. I’ve received a lot of items from the particular brand in my Ricky’s subscription boxes. First of all, I really have to say that I’m a huge fan of the Harry Potter reference here. This palette features four shimmery highlight shades. The shade range is fun, but still neutral enough to be worn with most looks. They apply very subtly, but can be built up easily.
The verdict: I was really hoping that since this was the last box Ricky’s would go out with a boom, but unfortunately they fell a little flat for me. The lip mask and invisible liner where fun items to receive as I’ve never tried them before. The value of this box was roughly $58 thanks to the palette, but there were only 4 items which is a bit of a bummer. All in all, I’m sad to see Ricky’s g0 as I had only been with them since June. I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!
