How does the Glam Bag Plus work?
Type of subscription: beauty
Frequency: monthly
Product size: full!
Amount of products received: at least 5, always
Cost: $25/month

If you’re familiar with how ipsy works, then you’ll catch on pretty quick to the Glam Bag Plus. Each month you will receive a box of 5 full sized items. Every three months you will receive a makeup bag in your box as well. This is different from a regular ipsy subscription where the items are sample sizes and you receive a themed makeup bag every single month. Because all of the products in the Glam Bag Plus are full sized there are fewer variations than there are with it’s counterpart. That being said, they still try to take your beauty profile into consideration. It’s entirely possible though, that you could receive the same variation as one of your friends.

At the time of writing this blog post the Glam Bag Plus subscription is invite only. If after reading you decide that you would like the subscription then I would advise you to email ipsy customer service and ask to be placed on the waitlist. The only requirement for receiving the Glam Bag Plus is an already active ipsy subscription. You can create one here: ipsy.

I pay for this subscription.

Instead of just having a card with the product information on it the Glam Bag Plus comes with a fold out brochure. This brochure shows you all of the items that you received and how you can use them all.

It’s important to note that after December ipsy stopped sending makeup bags in the Glam Bag Plus boxes.

Briogeo Rosarco Milk Restorative Leave-In Conditioning Spray – retail $20

I already owned this product before receiving it in my subscription this month, so that should give you some indication as to how much I like it. This leave-in is made with rosehip, argan, and coconut (rosarco). I love that it isn’t greasy or sticky feeling and that it leaves my hair feeling super soft. It can be used on wet or dry hair, but I like to use it best right out of the shower. I find that it tames my frizz and protects my hair from the heat of my styling tools. Not to mention, it smells absolutely delicious.

Vasanti Matte Crush Lipstick Pencil in “Berry First Kiss” – retail $23

This lip pencil came in two variations of shades, and unfortunately I did not receive the shade that I was hoping for. While I probably won’t wear this color, I can appreciate the formula of the actual pencil. It’s creamy and smooth, even for a matte, and stays put all day. It comes in the form of a pencil, which I would normally complain about, but since they also send a sharpener for free I’ll keep my mouth shut on this one. The color is super opaque and pigmented, so one swipe’ll do ya.

Hey Honey Good Morning Honey Silk Facial Serum – retail $45

At $45 this serum is the highest valued item in my box this month. No surprise there, as Hey Honey makes amazing skincare products. I’ve never been disappointed with a Hey Honey product and this one is no different. I love how lightweight this serum is and that is absorbs into my skin in no time flat. It’s formulated with glycerin, amino acids, and vitamin E to brighten, moisturize and smooth skin. Like all of Hey Honey’s products, this serum contains honey which is a natural antibacterial. So not only does it make your skin feel great, but it’s working double time to improve you complexion.

Eyeko Black Magic Liquid Eyeliner – retail $22 (on sale for $16.50!)

Admittedly, I’m a little miffed that I received an Eyeko eyeliner again after having received one in my October box as well. They were different liners (the one in October was the Skinny Liner), but still black liquid eyeliners all the same. Not that I can’t always use black liner, but it takes a little bit of fun out of the subscription when you get the same items over and over. ANYWAY! Those complaints aside, I really do like this specific liner. The applicator was inspired by a calligraphy brush so it is flexible and easy to maneuver. It’s not quite as pigmented as some of it’s counterparts, but having to go over it a second time isn’t that hard considering how easy it is to use. I did find that it was long wearing and smudge proof. One of my favorite things about this liner is that it’s made with “wide lash” peptides, which means that using it daily could result in lash growth up to three times in length and volume in just 15 days!

Violet Voss Mini HG Eye Shadow Palette – retail $18 (you can buy the full size palette for $45 at the link provided)

This fun sized palette was a special surprise sixth item for every member in the month of January. Score! While this palette doesn’t exactly contain colors that are in my wheelhouse (it’s very brown toned) it does have a lot of neutral colors that could be combined in a million ways to create gorgeous day to night eye looks. With five shimmers and five mattes, the possibilities are pretty much endless. These shadows are infused with jojoba oil so they blend smoothly and won’t crease on you.

Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion – retail $40

Oh man, another item that I already own? Thankfully I love Murad products and could always use more to keep myself well stocked. I originally ordered this moisturizer back when I had eyelash extensions, because it was oil free and safe to use. This lotion is made with a soothing herb called arnica which helps to reduce redness and puffiness. It’s also meant to reduce shine and the size of your pores. It’s really lightweight and doesn’t leave behind a greasy feeling. It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid and honey– the perfect match for the Hey Honey serum I received. I love how soft this moisturizer leaves my face feeling.

The verdict: It’s a little disappointing that I already owned so many of the items that I was sent in my box this month, but at least I know I’ll like them. Still, it made January a little less exciting. I did enjoy that it was heavy on skincare items this time around. The Hey Honey and Murad will get a lot of use. As will the Briogeo. I’ll definitely use the Eyeko, once I’ve finishing off the other ones, but the Vasanti and Violet Voss aren’t my colors and may go unused unfortunately. I’m really hoping that February brings new products that I’ve never tried before!

Thanks for reading!
