How does ipsy work?
Type of subscription: beauty
Frequency: monthly
Product size: sample, although most people will receive at least one full sized item
Amount of products received: at least 5, always
Cost: $10/month or $110/year
Each month you recieve a themed makeup bag stuffed with products. It’s a “try before you buy” type of subscription, and a generally fun way to find new things that you love (or hate). Every person’s bag is a different variation based off of the style quiz they complete upon signing up. That means you probably won’t get the same thing as your friends, which is pretty cool!

I pay for this subscription.
The theme for the month of January is “Recharge.” New year, new you, as they say! Certainly new year, new ipsy! I am LOVING these new fold out brochures that come with the bags. It gives you in depth information on each of the items you receive, and this month talks about a lot of the changes the company is making. Aside from add ons and the Plus, they’ve also revealed that they will be rolling out a new beauty quiz tailored to our needs. I can’t wait!
This month’s bag has been likened to bed sheets or hospital gowns by others, but I actually really like it! The pattern is varying sizes of white and blue stripes and there is bright pink lining the sides of the bag and the zipper. The zipper pull is the same color pink, as well as the inner lining of the bag. It’s a little on the smaller side, but definitely adorable in my opinion.
Firma Beauty 102 Elite Blush Brush (full size!) – retail $15.99
I love blush, and I love brushes. So, naturally, I’m head over heels for this gorgeous addition to my collection. The handle of the brush is white with a metallic accent towards the top. I really like the size of it and find it easy to hold. The bristles are super soft, and do a great job of picking up product.
Skin&Co Roma Truffle Therapy Face Gommage (travel size) – retail $8
I’ve tried a cleanser from Skin&Co before and it was probably my favorite cleanser that I’ve used in the history of ever. So naturally I was psyched to be receiving another of their products to try. This exfoliant smells heavenly and leaves my face feeling super clean after use. It’s formulated with truffle extract and almond oil, which not only helps your skin maintain moisture but also soothes skin making it look less red.
Illamasqua Colouring Pencil Lip Crayon in “Lust” (full size!) – retail $16.80 (this specific shade isn’t for sale, but there are many others! Also, you can earn 3.5% cash back by using Ebates when purchasing from this site)
First, let’s just appreciate how much fun it is to try and say this brand’s name. Okay, moving on. The shade Lust is described as a rich rosy color, which is going to go really well with the majority of my lip products. This liner does a great job at keeping lipstick from smudging or smearing, and can be used to fill in your lips in lieu of lipstick if you should choose. I’m not really practiced with lip liners, this being the first one I’ve ever used, so it might take me a while to get the hang of it.
Pure Brazilian Leave-In Conditioner – full size retail $26
I love a good leave-in, and this one is infused with keratin to help rebuild dry and damaged hair. Just listen to some of this ingredients: Bulgarian Rose Water, Bombyx Silk, Quarts, and crushed Pink Sea Pearls. Like, what? That sounds like the most high end thing that I’ve ever sprayed on my head. This leave-in leaves my hair feeling soft and looking shiny. I love that it’s working double time to repair my split ends. It’s salt free, so it doesn’t leave you with any brittle sticky feeling.
Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner (travel size) – retail $9
This is my third Eyeko liquid liner in the past few months from ipsy, so to say that I’m becoming disenchanted with the brand would be a little bit of an understatement. Nevertheless, it’s a great liner. As a travel size it’s a little bit more difficult to maneuver, solely because you have to hold it that much closer to your eyes, but it utilizes the same smudge free, long lasting formula that we have all come to know and love. I found this liner to be darker, more pigmented than the others I’ve tried from this brand.
Verdict: this bag was a four out of five stars for me. I think the makeup bag itself is super adorable, and I love most of the products I received. My main qualm is that I am just so OVER Eyeko liquid liners (or liners in general I suppose I should say). I probably own one of every type at this point. Oh well, at least it’s something that I’m guaranteed to use.
Thanks for reading!
